Introduction to Partnership for Diversity 2007


Partnership for Diversity (PfD 2007), EBLUL’s flagship conference, will this year explore issues in minority language broadcasting. The conference will be held from 26th to 29th September in the spectacular Alpine setting of Vigo di Fassa, Trentino, Italy, in the heart of the Ladin-speaking area.

European Parliament President speaks out on language rights
The European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pottering spoke out recently (June 6th) on the securing of language rights on the occasion of a book launch on national minority rights. We have republished the speech in full below along with the contribution from the Intergroup leader Csaba Tabajdi MEP.
France fails to implement UN recommendations on 'regional' languages
EBLUL France are at the UN in Geneva this week calling for the implementation of its 2001 Report on ‘regional’ language rights in France to the UN’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Six years later and France has failed to implement any of the Report, despite UN recommendations to do so.
“Be brave Mr Commissioner!” Leonard Orban meets the Intergroup
Commissioner for Multilingualism Leonard Orban met with the European Parliament's Intergroup for Traditional Minorities and Regional Languages last week (9th May). At the meeting MEPs cross-examined Mr Orban on the Commission’s initiatives to promote and protect Europe’s lesser-used, regional or minority languages (RMLs).
CoR conference to promote multilingual workforce for a competitive European economy

The importance of a multilingual society in the promotion of mobility in Europe's regions and cities was the topic of a Committee of the Regions conference examining the importance of multilingualism for Europe's competitiveness held in Bozen (Bolzano), Sud Tirol, on 16-17 April.
